Our new favorite restaurant in CG, great food, great service. We've had several trips and each time it's fantastic. Lot of variety, bar is big also with large tvs featuring local teams.

Decent Mexican cuisine, in a clean and bright setting. This might be a chain, but everyone has a good home town attitude. Quick service, lots of smiles. The food gets a 7 out of 10. In this town, for lunch and dinner that means we have a winner. Nice big noisy bar if you like that sort of thing, but a nice dining side available as well.

Love the server it was her third day and she was trying very hard and did a good job, the food was not that great for a Mexican restaurant. My plate was not even close on how it look on the menu. Won't come here again.

Where too start. The good: beautiful decor. Very friendly staff. The bad: this is were I became disappointed at. Being from Phoenix, Az, I have had my share of great Mexican food and bad. This place is one of the worst. I ordered the 3 enchiladas plate. The chicken was not cooked in the seasoning, it tasted like it was added after it was cook. The red sauce was very bland, the bean were runny and not cooked in lard at all. The rice had no seasoning on it either. The waitress decided to describe a quesada too me, which was very unnecessary as I asked if it open (cheese crisp style) or not. The quesada was very good, only reason for the two stars. I was very disappointed and have to question the good reviews on this site from people saying it was the best Mexican.

Love this place! Great food, great staff. Sometimes they are very busy but always seem to get our food right. Great drinks. If in the Grove would recommend.

Being a trained chef and coming from a traditional spanish family. This place is mediocre at best the food was extremely bland. Taco bell has better tacos then they do and the frozen grocery store tamales are better then theirs.

We loved the variety!!! Endless Menu! Awesome Drinks! Food was great too! Our waiter was friendly and had a good sense of humor. One of the first in CG to use Belly point system. Love That! Definitely returning!

Beautiful setting and decoration. Service is off the hook, you have hovering waiters. The food is soso. I tend to get loose poopies from something there .... I suspect the salsa ignites something .. need to remember this if I am ever clogged up. Last time I went got the Chicken Fajita to celebrate. Fajita seasoning was blah ... not exciting it was a HUGE pile of onions and peppers so you had to hunt and peck to find the chicken. I thought it was a real rip off for the money ... chicken is not that expensive. The waiters are very friendly, just wish the food was good and worth the top dollar. A great place to eat if you are constipated .....haha

Another great meal. Been here multiple times and have never had a bad meal. The servers are attentive without being annoying, and always friendly. We always get the margarita special, and have not been disappointed.

I have lived in this area for six years and label this as my favorite sit-down place for Mexican food. El Tapatio is a very comfortable and clean restaurant with a bar. The staff is really great and their food is amazing! If you like beer, try the Micheladas. I would recommend this place any night of the week. Give it a try if you get a chance.

Micheladas are the best! Love the atmosphere! Wish we had this in California. Also tried the shrimp cocktail which has HUGE shrimp :)

Excellent food, so-so service. We've eaten there about a dozen times, and sometimes make a special trip to eat there, even though we live 25 miles north, in Springfield. The portions are bountiful, served hot, very appetizingly arrayed on the plate, and not overpriced. I recommend the Enchiladas Rancheras (with fried eggs on top!), and a large pitcher of Widmer's Hefeweizen beer, served with a lemon. The entire building, including (and especially) the restrooms are immaculate. I almost feel that I could eat off the floor in the bathroom. Had only one "bad" experience with them: We ordered "Cheese Deep" (cheese dip), and was told that they don't serve it to people, as it "tastes bad" (even though they didn't strike it from the menu); we ordered Enchiladas Rancheras (2 orders) on a Sunday, and was told that it was a Monday-Saturday lunch item, and only "Dinner" items were served on Sunday (thus, we were served something we hadn't ordered, even though we offered to pay full-dinner price for the lunch item); and we ordered a LARGE pitcher of Widmer's Hefeweizen beer, and was served a small pitcher. The waiter seemed indifferent to our complaints (he got a 1-penny tip that day.) We wrote a letter of complaint stating that we'd never had such crappy service at their restaurant before, and that we were disappointed. Two days later, an employee showed up at our door (a 25 mile one-way drive!) and humbly apologized, presenting us with two coupons, each worth a free meal on our next visit. We were impressed, to say the least. We used the coupons on our subsequent visit, and have never had a bad experience since. I never hesitate to recommend this place.

The restaurant is clean the food is good the service? what service? The service assistants do EVERYTHING except take the order. I have never gotten service there! The bar is worse the male bartender is rude and entitled and unprofessional! We went in with a group of ladies for a bridal shower celebration and were treated horribly, I had put a Jello shot in my pocket and forgot about it, then when I went to get my ID and credit card I found it and took it out,we ordered drinks from one of the servers but the arrogant male bartender brought us our drinks he looked at me and said "ill take that" I went to hand him my Credit card so I could pay and he said no the jello shot, I said Oh I forgot I had it, he said I will hold it at the bar for you, I said no don't bother just throw it away, He then went to the bar and was talking to the other bartenders about it, came back and insisted on searching all of our purses! He found nothing, but insisted on confiscating our purses! He was acting like he was doing us a favor by not kicking us out! He never came back to check on us or offer food! We were not trying to scam anybody we had money and were there to eat drink and have fun! well I finally went to the bar and told the sweet female bartender that we needed more drinks and some food and that we did not want Mr. Fancy pants waiting on us because we did not like him for the fact that he was rude and arrogant, she then took our order for food and drinks, meanwhile two of the ladies went outside one to smoke and the other to keep her company but first they had to retrieve their confiscated purses from the bar, one of them teasingly said "I'm gonna do my Jello shots" LOL! next thing we know they are accusing the two ladies of doing jello shots outside, and were kicking them out! They didn't have any jello shots because the Bartender checked their purses, and found nothing! we called "bullshit" and asked for the manager, she took Mr. Fancy pants side before we could even explain what had happened! Then the "security" guy had to put his two cents in and said that he saw them being sneaky and that when he walked up they were trying to hide something in their purses! WOW! Not true! When our food and drinks finally came we were already leaving and they still wanted us to pay! We did pay under duress because we did not want the sweet female bartender to have to pay for our food and drinks that we never got to consume! For a business in a small town like Cottage Grove they sure don't know how to be hospitable! I think they are running on the fact that there are not many places to go or much to do in the Grove! Well after a while people will get sick of being treated like crap and quit going there! I have been a food server, trainer and Manager in the food service industry for over 30 years and I have never been treated so badly in my life nor have I ever treated anyone that way no matter how obnoxious they were being! I must admit I did tell him off and used a few choice words as well, I was appalled by his arrogance and behavior! I will NEVER eat there again, and i will let all my friends know how I was treated there. Here we come Torrero's!!!!

This place is excellent in food and service. It is also one of the cleanest places I have ever eaten in. I have been here several times and not once have I been disappointed. They have a great menu (I love the shrimp #22), and sopapillas which I get plain and take home to drown them in honey, I could go on but I am making me hungry...

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
